1364 Fogarty International Center National Institutes of Health Chronic, Non-Communicable Diseases and Disorders Across the Lifespan: Fogarty International Research Training Award Planning Grants (NCD-LIFESPAN) (D71) The Chronic, Non-Communicable Diseases and Disorders Across the Lifespan: Fogarty International Research Training Award program will support collaborative research training between institutions in the U.S. and low-and middle-income countries (LMIC), defined by the World Bank classification system. The proposed institutional research training program is expected to sustainably strengthen the research capacity of the LMIC institutions, and to train in-country experts to conduct research on chronic, non-communicable diseases and disorders, with the ultimate goal of implementing evidence-based interventions relevant to their countries.

1361 Fogarty International Center National Institutes of Health Brain Disorders in the Developing World: Research Across the Lifespan - Limited Competition (BRAIN) (R01) The purpose of the Brain Disorders in the Developing World: Research Across the Lifespan program is to develop collaborative research and capacity building projects on brain disorders throughout life, relevant to low- and middle-income countries. Applicants are expected to develop innovative, collaborative research programs that would contribute to the long-term goal of building sustainable research capacity in nervous system function and impairment throughout life. The applicant should also provide a plan to assess current resources and needs, and a plan to address those needs, to enable the proposed research and capacity building to be successfully carried out. Training and other capacity-building opportunities should be incorporated into the research application in the context of the proposed research.
