The Institute was created on April 15, 1999 to promote, develop and implement relevant research programs and activities that will improve the health and development of the child. ICHHD envisions that "by 2008, we shall be the nationally recognized medical research center in child health and development. We shall be the leading organization, a most sought after national research resource and partner in the regional and international arena, managing a research agenda committed to the improvement of the child's health and optimal development."
